About Lisa Chan, professional, fully qualified, licensed acupuncture practitioner.
I am based in Oswestry, North Shropshire. I offer a range of treatments at 'Time for You' complementary therapy clinic in Oswestry, and provide a mobile ear acupuncture service in Oswestry and the surrounding area, offering treatment in the comfort and convenience of your own home.

What is Ear Acupuncture?
Ear acupuncture, also known as auriculotherapy or auricular acupuncture is a form of therapy in which extremely fine, sterile single use disposable acupuncture needles are inserted around 2mm into specific points on the outer ear (auricle) to trigger a healing response in your body. Each ear has over two hundred powerful acupuncture points which correspond to every part of the body and to body functions, therefore the the whole body, the whole person can be treated via the ears.

What happens during a treatment?
I will ask you about your relevant medical history and any symptoms you are experiencing. I will then examine your ears and possibly also your tongue and wrists help me form a diagnosis and treatment plan according to traditional Chinese medical principles. I will decide which points to treat by gently pressing your ears to locate tender, and therefore therapeutically active points.
Usually two to five points are treated on one or both ears. The needling sensation may be completely painless or a brief sharp pricking sensation. After the needles are inserted clients often experience a feeling of relaxation, sometimes with sensations of warmth, tingling, energy flow in the body and often an immediate reduction of pain.

What can it help?
Ear acupuncture can be used to help the same range of conditions as body acupuncture.
It can help chronic complaints and acute conditions and be safely used alongside conventional medical treatment.

Electro Acupuncture and Electo-Stimulation

Electo-Acupuncture and Electro Stimulation is becoming popular especially with Physiotherapists and Doctors  for pain control especially for sports injuries.  Many Traditional Acupuncturists are also offering Electo Acupuncture in their practices. So just what is Electo-Acupuncture /Stimulation and why use it?,  also how does it differ from  Traditional Acupuncture ?

Electo-Acupuncture
Acupuncture needles are inserted into the skin and a small electrical signal is used to stimulate the acupuncture points. The needles are connected to a specialised device via some small wires. The stimulation signal is controlled by the Acupuncturist by  various dials on the device.  Depending on the device used numerous Acupuncture points can be stimulated simultaneously.

Electo-Stimulation
There are  NO needles inserted.  Acupuncture Points are stimulated by either a small probe  held by the Acupuncturist or by using  electrodes taped to the surface of the skin. This is very similar to the operation of a TENS device  (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation).
Electro – Acupuncture is not suitable for everyone, for example patients with pacemakers, heart conditions, and any history of strokes and seizures are examples of exclusions.  The practitioner will as always discuss your specific needs and take a full medical history as part of the diagnosis process and assess your suitability.

Auricular Electro- Acupuncture/Stimulation
Perhaps one of the most common forms of stimulation used by Acupuncturists is to stimulate Acupuncture points located on the Ear. In recent years there has been an increase in the number of research studies undertaken into this branch of Acupuncture. Western Research into the use of Acupuncture points located in the Ear began in France in the 1950’s and continues today especially in the United States. There is a complete branch of Acupuncture dedicated to Ear Acupuncture.

Some of our Mobile practitioners also offer Electro Acupuncture / or Stimulation alongside Traditional body Acupuncture, please contact us for more details.
